SiC half-bridge modules combine two switching positions for use in inverter and converter stages. Star Power Semiconductor’s MD53HFL120L2S_B20 integrates two N-channel SiC MOSFETs and specifies an on-resistance of 5.3 mΩ at 25 °C.

The module uses an aluminium nitride active metal brazed (AlN-AMB) substrate and is designed for PCB integration. According to the company, its layout supports integration into existing silicon IGBT designs. Gate-drive requirements, switching behaviour and thermal conditions nevertheless need to be assessed for each application.

Applications in Drives and Power Supplies

Target applications include DC/DC converters, electric vehicle auxiliary drives and on-board chargers. Star Power also lists photovoltaic inverters, uninterruptible power supplies and servo drives among the intended uses.

The announcement does not provide comparative measurements for efficiency, switching losses or cooling requirements. Any improvements over an IGBT-based design therefore depend on the operating conditions and implementation.

Star Power will exhibit at electronica 2026 in Munich in Hall B4, Booth 500. (mr)
