For future innovations: the Hanau application center

Material Systems, a business development program at Heraeus, opened an application center for power electronics at the Heraeus location in Ha-nau at the end of May.

The Material Systems team invited guests from the industry, institutes, and Heraeus to the event and presented a comprehensive program.

Presentations by external partners and customers as well as in-house researchers and developers gave insight into the different applications for power electronics, among other things. In addition to providing an
interesting look at different power electronics modules and their final application, there were also tours through the new application development center and the analytics lab.

“Innovation is becoming increasingly important for Heraeus,” said Rolf Najork, COO Heraeus Holding, at the event. “In the future, we will have to approach development
projects not only from the material side, but also from the end-customer side in order to get ahead in the current market. We need to consider the entire value chain and think now about the new requirements for material technology that will emerge in a few
years.”

Muriel Thomas, Director Material Systems, added, “Power electronics are playing a growing role in a great deal of applications. They range from the automotive industry to systems in elevators, wind generators and forklifts, from ships to an increasing number of applications in people’s private lives, such as washing machines and air-conditioning units. In the future, Heraeus will be a material system provider in this area, meaning a provider of complete solutions comprised of aligned materials. For that reason, the application and development center is a great opportunity for us to bundle our expertise and secure a piece of Heraeus’ future in the intensely competitive worldwide electronics market.”
