The strip-ticket went out of fashion long ago. Visitors who are not experts of the intricacies of Munich's public transport system and its fare zones should avoid it. Buy a day ticket instead.

The strip-ticket is not an option. In principle, this special ticket (which is available at vending machines and kiosks) allows you to undertake multiple trips. But beware: Visitors who don't have an expert knowledge of the intricacies of Munich's public transport system and its fare zones should avoid it.

Getting there from Munich and Frankfurt Airport

According to Skytrax, Munich's airport is the best in Europe, but it is located approximately 30 kilometer from the centre of the city. The airport is connected to the city by the suburban train lines S1 and S8. Under normal circumstances, the connection is good. But if you arrive next weekend or on Monday, November 10th, there will probably be problems because of the strike of the train drivers' union.

Other than the underground trains, the suburban lines (S-Bahn) will be affected by the strike. Expect delays and cancellations of services. An alternative is the Lufthansa Airport Bus. You can use the bus even if you didn't fly with Lufthansa. The Lufthansa Bus leaves every 20 minutes from 6:25 am to 10:25 pm. Bus stops are at the Terminal 2, the Terminal 1 (Module A), the Munich Airport Center (MAC) and at the Terminal 1 (Module D).

The bus takes you to the Central station. From the Central Station, you'll get to the fairground if you take the U2 underground service. The single fare for the Airport bus is 10.50, a return ticket costs 17 Euro per person. You can find additional information on the web site of the bus. Unfortunately, there are no tickets available which combine the fare of the airport bus and the underground fare.

There is also a shuttle bus that hauls visitors directly from the airport to the fairground. It leaves at 7:56 am at the Terminal 2, at 8:00 am at the Terminal 1 (Module A), at 8:04 am at Terminal 1(Module Z) and after that every 30 minutes until 6:00 pm.

The shuttle bus from the fairground to the airport leaves at 9:30 am from the Entrance West, three minutes later at the eastern entrance and after that every 30 minutes (the last one leaves at 7:00 pm, on Friday, November14th at 6:00 pm).

The ride between the airport and the fairground takes about 45 minutes. The one-way ticket for the electronica shuttle costs 8 Euro, the price for the return ticket is 13.50 Euro.

Don't get lost at Frankfurt airport

Many exhibitors and visitors coming form Asia arrive in Frankfurt. Because of the train drivers' strike this will be very inconvenient. Delays and cancellations at the train station of Frankfurt Airport will be the norm on the weekend and on Monday, November 10th.

Travellers should either seek to book a connecting flight from Frankfurt to Munich, book a rental car or book a trip on the recently established long-distance bus services. But the use of the long-distance buses is not without problems.

To get from Frankfurt airport to Munich by a long-distance bus, you have to get to Frankfurt's Central railway station first because the long-distance buses to Munich leave there. You will need a taxi for this. Should you decide to take the long-distance bus, then there's good and bad news for you. The good news: The fares are cheap, the price for a ticket varies between 15 and 29 Euros - way cheaper than taking the train. The bad news: The trip to Munich can take up to 6 hours and 40 minutes. You can book your long-distance bus ticket on the web pages of the services ADAC-Postbus, meinfernbus.de and flixbus.com.

Another good news: Some of the long-distance buses offer free Wi-Fi on board. So you can at least check your e-mail while traveling to Munich.

Have a good trip and see you at our booth! We'll meet you in hall A5 at the booth 321.
